We saw lots of lobsters on todays dives. This was by far the coolest one – it was blue. I posted an image on Facebook, and it started a thread with really enlightening information about why some lobsters are blue.

Some suggest lobsters living in caves and on mud bottom can become blue from what they feed on. Others suggest that all lobsters have the same pigments in their shell, but genetic variations results in blue becoming dominant.

When boiled, the pigments denatures, and they all become red.

Even if no clear conclusion can be drawn from that thread, it gave a lot of interesting information. I love those threads when knowledgeable people engages in discussion and share experiences. And I’m humbled by having som many knowledgeable people on my friends list.
