When the temperatures drop below zero regularly its time to wrap up the season. Winter days at sea are wonderful but few, and rarely worth all the extra efforts.
This morning the harbour was frozen, and I had to break way out. Not for going out today, but to ensure we can get out on tomorrow. The weather forecast says it will be another cold night, and tomorrow we’re going out for the last boat dive this year.
Then it’s about having full gas tanks at all times to avoid condensation, keeping anchor and lines indoors so they don’t turn into solid blocks of ice, and de-icing locks and controls. And of course the constant monitoring of weather forecast, battery status, and daily running the motor.
That’s boating in wintertime.
