When fishing nets or pots are lost they continue fishing and become silent killing machines. Fish, lobsters and crabs that are caught in them dies and eventually turn into new bait. A vicious circle starts and continues for years.

On the bottom of the sea they are out of reach for the fishermen. And unfortunately out of sight, and out of mind.

As divers we see this. Often. And we can make a difference. By reporting and documenting what we see, and recover what we can.

Norway has established well working processes for involving scuba divers in this important environmental efforts. Sweden is about to catch up.

Its in everyone’s interest to maintain sustainable populations, and the marine ecosystem intact.
